CHRISTOPHER J. DOHERTY
Managing Director of Private Capital
Chris is a Managing Director of the Private Capital group. He is responsible for overseeing direct private investments in select emerging growth companies and serves on the Private Capital investment committee.
Chris combines over 12 years of venture capital and principal investing experience with over 15 years of legal, regulatory, fiduciary and government experience. He began his career in the United States Senate serving in multiple capacities for Senator Edward M. Kennedy. He served as Deputy Chief of Staff and later as Labor and Employment Counsel to Chairman Kennedy on the Labor & Human Resources Committee. In between stints as a Partner in the Washington, DC law firm of Fox, Bennett and Turner, Chris served as a Deputy Treasurer and General Counsel to the Massachusetts Department of the Treasury. Chris gained earlier principal investing experience at SCP Private Equity Partners and Potomac Investments.
Chris holds a BA in Government from Harvard College and a JD from Georgetown University Law Center.
JASON A. CRIST
Managing Director of Private Capital
Jason is a Managing Director of the Private Capital group. He is responsible for overseeing direct private investments in select emerging growth companies and serves on the Private Capital investment committee.
Jason has over 20 years combined experience in investment banking, structured finance, private equity and commercial lending. Previously, Jason founded and managed the media investment banking division for Legg Mason Wood Walker, Inc., in Baltimore, Maryland, where he focused on M&A, strategic advisory and public/private transactional work for companies in the radio/TV/satellite broadcast, cable and media services sectors. Prior to Legg Mason, Jason was Managing Director with PriceWaterhouseCoopers, where he focused on large Business Process Outsourcing transactions. Jason began his career as a commercial banker focusing on the communications, telecommunications and media sectors.
Jason holds a BA in Economics from the University of Virginia and has completed extensive graduate work in both finance and international business at Georgetown and George Washington Universities.
K. DUNLOP SCOTT
President & Chief Operating Officer
Managing Principal, Columbia Partners L.L.C. Investment Management
Dun is President and Chief Operating Officer of Columbia Partners L.L.C. Investment Management. He serves on the Private Capital investment committee and is an integral part of the investment process including overseeing private equity and venture capital fund investments.
Dun has over 25 years of experience in the capital markets and in operating businesses. He has broad and deep experience in many aspects of the banking and financial services industries, as well as extensive operations experience. He began his career in the Foreign Service; served as a mergers and acquisitions banker and then as Chief Financial Officer for several significant information technology companies, including one that he helped fund and grow from start-up to $100 million in revenues. Dun also served as a Corporate Vice President in charge of investor relations for a multi-billion dollar company.
Dun holds a BA in economics and German Literature from Lehigh University and an MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
THOMAS BAIN
Vice President
Tom is an Investment Principal within the Private Capital Group, responsible for
originating, executing, and managing direct private investments.
Tom is an experienced venture and private equity investor, with over 12
years of industry focus in the information technology sector. Prior to
joining Columbia Partners, he spent 6 years at Columbia Capital focused
on technology venture investing, and was actively involved in over 20
portfolio companies and 40+ private financing rounds. Tom began his
investment career with Deutsche Banc Alex. Brown, where he was an equity
research analyst covering the communications equipment and semiconductor
industry groups. He also has prior IT consulting and engineering
experience with the Gartner Group and Nortel Networks, respectively.
Tom received his B.S. in Operations Research and Information Engineering
from Cornell University and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
STEVEN J. BINDER
Director of Client Relations
Managing Principal, Columbia Partners L.L.C. Investment Management
Steve is the Director of client relations and a managing principal of Columbia Partners L.L.C. Investment Management. He is responsible for overseeing all marketing and client service activities at the firm including overseeing Private Capital client relationships.
Prior to joining Columbia Partners as a founding partner in 1995, Steve served for six years as Vice President at ASB Capital Management, serving the union and Taft-Hartley market. Steve also worked at American Security Bank, Treasury and Investment Division and has over 20 years of experience in the financial service and investment industry.
Steve holds a BA in Business Management, North Carolina State University (cum laude); MBA in Finance & Investments, George Washington University.
ROBERT M. LORD
Financial Analyst
Director of Operations & Planning, Columbia Partners L.L.C. Investment Management
Bob provides analytical and portfolio management support for Private Capital. Bob is also responsible for the general operations of the firm providing support for information technology, accounting, finance, marketing, and client service.
Prior to joining Columbia Partners in 2002, Bob worked as a financial consultant for a number of private firms whose industry focus included information technology, advertising, telecommunications and software development.
Bob has a BA in Economics from the University of Virginia and an MBA from Duke University where he concentrated in finance and operations.
